'That trophy is going straight in the bin' - Kai Havertz's unhappy Man of the Match photo leaves All

Ally McCoist reckons Kai Havertz’s Man of the Match trophy is ‘going straight in the bin’ after seeing a picture of the miserable Germany forward.

Havertz did his best in his country’s 4-2 win over Costa Rica with a brace that meant all they needed was a Spain equaliser against Japan.

That didn’t come, though, meaning Havertz’s efforts were in vain as Germany were knocked out - but they still didn’t go unnoticed.

The Chelsea forward deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award for his two-goal display, but unsurprisingly wasn’t too pleased about having to pose with his prize.

In a picture that quickly went viral, Havertz was pictured with the award looking utterly miserable, and talkSPORT’s McCoist could only laugh.

“He’s standing there with the trophy and you have never seen an unhappier Man of the Match,” he said. “I tell you he’s doing everything but crying.

“I’m willing to bet a pound at any odds at all that trophy is not in Havertz’s cabinet when he gets back to London in the near future.

“You want to see this picture, it’s unbelievable - that trophy is going straight in the bin, that might be my magic moment of the tournament.”

Havertz spoke after potentially putting his trophy in the bin, and was shocked about his side’s defending.

Not only against Costa Rica, but also the crucial 2-1 defeat against Japan that ended their tournament.

"We have to look at ourselves," he said. "We had enough chances to win against Japan, enough chances to win against Spain.

“We had the game in our hands today and still conceded two goals against Costa, which shouldn't really be possible with the quality we have.

"We then turned the game around, which was good. But then you see the other result. With quality like that, we can't afford to lose to Japan. The game against Japan made the difference."
