Emmys Twitter Mistakes Terrence Howard for Cuba Gooding Jr.
Whoops. The official Twitter account for the 2016 Emmys mistakingly identified Terrence Howard as Cuba Gooding Jr. ahead of the awards show on Sunday, September 18.
“Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series nominee @cubagoodingjr at the #Emmys red carpet!” the Television Academy’s tweet read alongside a shot of Howard in a printed jacket on the red carpet.
Moments later, the Academy fixed their social media snafu, but the mistake didn’t go unnoticed.
“@terrencehoward is here at the #Emmys red carpet!” the account tweeted, along with the same image.
According to BuzzFeed, both tweets were active at the same time until the original was eventually deleted.
Prior to entering the Microsoft Theater in L.A. for TV’s biggest night, Howard, 47, talked about his Empire character, Lucious Lyon, telling E!’s Giuliana Rancic that the music mogul is an “a‑‑hole.”
Oscar-winner Gooding, 48, was also present. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story star was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his portrayal of the former NFL star. He lost to his costar, Courtney B. Vance, who played Johnnie Cochran.
